Legacy team year

Who Are We?
Legacy is an organisation which works predominantly with young people and is involved in a variety of activities related to this people group. It is overseen by The Legacy Trust (Benfleet) which consists of a Board of Trustees chaired by the incumbent of St George's (New Thundersley), which is the planting church. The Pastor of the church is an Ordained Minister and Legacy is part of the Church of England.

The Legacy Congregation is a Fresh Expression of Church which is held in our Skatepark and Youth Centre meeting every Sunday evening at the Legacy XS Centre between 7:00pm - 10:00pm. We have 3 types of evenings within the church and these are worship, prayer and discipleship evenings. Worship evenings consist of a sermon from one of our preachers, usually a young person from the congregation, and worship led by our band, with some time for prayer ministry. Prayer evenings are hosted by a member of the leadership team and the night normally consists of acoustic worship and many different ways of expressing our prayers to God. We regularly experiment with different ways of worship and prayer including the use of ramps for BMX, Skateboard and Inline for worship and prayer. Our Ancient Paths events are evenings where we go deeper into the issues of Christian faith drawing on the ancient traditions of the Church. We are involved in detached outreach work using mobile ramps and football cage as well as working in local Secondary schools taking Religious Studies lessons, holding mentoring sessions and leading assemblies.

Facilities
The Legacy XS Youth Centre and Skatepark is located in Richmond Park, Richmond Avenue, Benfleet. Legacy XS is a purpose built 8,500sqft building which houses 4,500sqft of indoor ramps for skateboarding, inline skating and BMXing, and was erected at a cost of £500,000. There is also a 7,500sqft external riding area. In addition a large café on the 1st floor has viewing windows which allow patrons to watch the indoor ramps area, pool tables, computer facilities and games machines. There is an internet room which provides LAN gaming and internet access. The bar serves non-alcoholic drinks, snacks and hot and cold food. The café plays host to music nights with local bands or DJs and has a large purpose built PA system with 24 track mixing desk and stage lighting rig.

The House
The Legacy House is the residential community which sits at the heart of our communal life together. Members of the community commit to work for 20 hours a week to support the work of Legacy in various ways. Those living in the community are required to contribute £10 a week to the family purse from which all food and drink are purchased. Residents adopt a rhythm of life and prayer beginning each day with morning prayer and ending with night prayer in the chapel at The House. This is Legacy's modern day monastic community which is an open house welcoming guests and offering hospitality to all. Most people spending a year of service with Legacy will join The House though as an alternative those who live locally may chose to remain living at home.
